ANGELA LOUIE
Aloha and thank you for your kind donation to support AHAās journey to the Merrie Monarch stage.
Ā
Iām Angela Louie, a first year student with AHA and first time Merrie Monarch candidate. I joined AHA in January 2023 with my sister to reintegrate dance back into our lives. We were nervous about making friends and didnāt know what to expect, but each class showed us that we could have fun while being educated about the movements and words of eachĀ expect, but each class showed us that we could have fun while being educated about the movements and words of each dance. The level of excellence is undoubtedly high at AHA.
Hula has been a part of my life for as far as I can remember.
Ā
My favorite hula memory was performing LiliuāE and loving my little purple costume.

Hula was my connection to home when I moved from Honolulu to San Francisco for undergrad at USF. I danced every year in our Hawaii clubās luau. In my senior year as club president, I had the distinct honor of coordinating our annual luau with Kumu Marlo Caramat of Te Mau Tamariāi A Tiare / NaĢĀ Kamaliāi A Kiele and that last performance marked the end of my hula career.
Fast forward 12 years and Iām at AHA doing basics to āeveryoneās favorite songā not only exercising my body but also my mind!Ā Kumzā blunt, loud yet hilarious way of teaching resonated with me. I knew being a part of AHA was something really special and something that Iād like to continue pursuing.
Hula class allows me to have some me time between being a mom, working as a corporate exec and every obligation in between.
Ā
Oftentimes it seems like there are not enough hours or energy in a day, but with the support of my husband we divide and conquer the dinner, bath and bedtime shuffle with our girls in time for me to attend weekly practices.
Ā
I am grateful for the privilege and opportunity to be dancing toward Merrie Monarch with my hula brothers and sisters. We are practicing hard in and out of class to put on an outstanding performance.
Ā
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us through our blog and we hope to see you at open enrollment in January, our upcoming fundraising events at the halau and on the Merrie Monarch floor!
